Misleading I know, but while exploring in the basement the other night I found a box of cassette tapes among the other ruins down there. In it was this comp, by Dirty Jase, c. (?) 1996-97ish. I'm surprised this thing hasn't disintegrated, it got so much play.
The Dengdu Province is one of those inside jokes between bros that withstands all tests of any time.
Detroiters love their shit. And by shit, I mean the plentitude of things connected with their city that they find enjoyable AND bring to them comfort. The most obvious list is long and peppered with entries like Eastern Market, the Heidelberg Project, Belle Isle, Woodward Avenue, the State Fair, etc. Food factors greatly into all of this and Lafayette Coney Island very nearly tops the list.
It's an institution, and I got a great blast of it last weekend when Dirty Jase and his brother Paul visited our fine city for a Tigers baseball game. Coneys were mentioned in planning discussions more than once, so I picked up that the priority was to be recognized. Those guys showed up to the house early and we hit this amazing, beautiful, long-standing eatery that epitomizes this city as much as the big block.
Naturally, we pull up, park and Jason points out a wig on the sidewalk.
The fellas working the place let me shoot whatever I wanted. They get people in there with cameras every hour on the hour, but I made sure to ask and be polite about it. I'm in their house, gotta show some respect.
Lathering up some mustard and slapping down some onions ...
But this, this is one of my favorites. I know it's not the most flattering shot and I hope he doesn't mind, but I'll be damned if this doesn't say it all.
I'm glad my friend is back in Michigan. I am hoping to meet him and Paul again next Saturday in Waterford for a day of national BMX races.Fuck yes.
Things have been absolutely nutty since my last post. The new job is great, but it is kicking my ass up and down, left to right. I come home fucking exhausted from this assault of constant information. It's taking me a little adjusting to get back to normal. But I do have some posts coming, including a very photo-heavy one I plan to get up tonight.
It's been a busy week. We are having our wedding reception on Saturday, with 133 of our closest friends and relatives. Most of the work is done, just tying up some loose ends, and I expect to remark a little more on that. Dirty Jase is coming in for it, so it's definitely a Vox exclusive. Ha!
And big, colossal-sized ups to Tony for the no-no by his boy Buehrle last night. Tiger fans NEVER look forward to seeing that guy on the mound, and it looks like this year is no different. Congrats to Buehrle, the White Sox and the Sox Nation for a historical night and a fucking amazing pitching performance.
